2012 went off with a bang! quite literally because the house behind me decided to test their skills at pyrotechnics, but only to create loud booms at five minute intervals which scared the toenails off me. after running from backyard to front yard and backyard again with mumsy to admire all the fireworks from what seemed like a million directions, i got in the car with dad to drive to nicholas' place for the new year's party!

i was quite worried to turn up at 12:30am new year's day, when the party started at 12pm new year's eve. i kept telling myself, "the party don't start til you walk in, wendy" but i knew that i was missing out. self-consolation doesn't really work so mental note, get married in the future. mum and i have this tradition where we always welcome the new year together at 12am on the dot and i wasnt ready to break that tradition. nevertheless, my arrival was surrounded by blasting party poppers and hugs from my beloved friends!

mattresses, blankets, streamers, ice cream tubs everywhere: definitely conveyed a party-like atmosphere yet the expressions on everyone's faces was that of a more than exhausted look. then there was me, happy chappy and all, inviting everyone to play cluedo and panic!! i was the mood killer in the situation. awkward. but managed to get lawrence, nikkida, avi, nicholas and his brother to join in with me. let the fun begin!

it was nicholas' first time playing cluedo but he got the hang of it quickly. by the second round of guessing, he exclaimed, "oh, i so got this!" and proceeded to accuse. he got both the suspect and the room incorrect.

onto the second game i brought: panic!. they dont sell it anymore and i remember acquiring it at a garage sale for 50c about 7 years ago! basically, there's a timer and a stack of cards. each card has a catergory inscribed on it. you pick up a card, read it out loud, the timer is start and you must name 5 things in that catergory before the timer is stopped. the timer starts at 12, then ticks all the way to 1. whatever the timer stops on, that is your score for that round. at the end of 10 rounds, whoever has the highest score wins (meaning, whoever has taken the least time to complete each round)!

the game was all good, until it was nicholas' turn and his card said, "things beginning with the letter f". after naming things like fire, he hit a blank and i dont know what happened, maybe the pressure of the timer, but he then proceeded to say phở. never going to forget that moment.

after tormenting me with some more poppers, everyone eventually started lying down and closing their eyes. time for nikkida and i to go back to her place to sleep! her dad picked us up at around 2:30am. got into bed at around 3 and did the usual girl talk routine. i got a bit excited and started kicking around on her bed at one point, hehe. we didnt sleep until about 5am but i like sleepovers at nikkida's so it's alright! except when her grandma sings chinese opera in the morning that wakes me up at sunrise. such a passionate hobby for an otherwise cute asian lady.

got a call at 7:45am. nicholas and avi had come to pick us up. pretty sure we all slept in the car...when we got to nicholas' we did nothing but retreat to his lounge room and dozed off on the couches! woke up at around 9 to make brekky...but that failed. so instead of persistence kicking into place, sleepyhead-mode took over again and we went back to the couches again. nikkida and lawrence woke up at 10:30am to go to church...i didnt wake up until 12pm. then ran to the shower before the boys did, hehe. bathroom wars aren't that fun when they're all asleep actually...

then nicholas made some pizza hut wings for us (my favourite) and about a kilo of bacon. he attempted candy bacon as seen on epic meal time which avi strongly advised against. sadly, avi left and then i had to leave before the bacon was ready. so nicholas was stuck with about two full trays of bacon by himself hehehe. the nicholas who once was, "yay bacon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" was reduced to a distressed "So much bacon. T_T" tweet.

basically, we slept. and slept. and ate then slept. thanks avi, nikkida, nicholas and loz for a very, let's say, chilled new years celebration. frans forevahhhhh.

gonna set myself some goals now:

- all study notes completed as i go. not crammed the night before. (this is so far so good, yay!)
- get my p's before february. that gives me an extra month. every day that passes now is just another day that i could be on the road driving by myself.
- study hard enough so i'll be happy when i get my hsc results in november/december of this year.
- appreciate what i have.
